Prince George tops Powell River in BCHL battle of royals

Powell River Kings' forward Noah Eyre scored once and added an assist in a BC Hockey League game against Prince George Spruce Kings on October 25.

Powell River Kings came back from two deficits, and briefly took the lead, before ultimately falling 5-4 to Prince George Spruce Kings on Wednesday, October 25. The game was played at Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle as part of the BC Hockey League's annual Showcase event, where each BCHL team is playing two games over five days this week.

Powell River fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but tied the score with goals from Carter Lundie at 4:09 of the second period and Noah Eyre (shorthanded) at 11:53. After Prince George regained the lead 49 seconds later, Anthony Lucarelli capitalized on a power play at 18:13, sending the game to the third period tied at three goals apiece.

Thomas Belzil's first goal (unassisted) of the BCHL season put Powell River on top two minutes into the final frame, but the lead was short-lived. Prince George tied the game 4-4 three minutes later, then converted a late power play into a game-winning goal with 2:50 remaining on the clock.

Powell River outshot Prince George 36-23. Goaltenders Owen Crudal and Will Baker played half the game each, combing for 18 saves in the 5-4 loss. Brendan Giles, Alex Bosland, Adam Mendelson, Eyre and Anthony Yu were credited with assists for Powell River.

Kings lost their first of two games at the showcase to Penticton on October 24.

Powell River hosts Salmon Arm Silverbacks at Hap Parker Arena on Saturday, October 28. Game time is 7 pm.
