Langley rallies to edge Powell River in BCHL action

Kings unable to hold three-goal lead, Rivermen battle back at home

When Will Jones scored with 4:42 remaining in the second period, Powell River Kings held a 3-0 lead over Langley Rivermen at George Preston Arena on Saturday, October 21. Then the complexion of the game changed in mere minutes before intermission.

Langley scored a trio of goals in a span of 2:38 to even the score at 3-3, including a power play marker to initiate the comeback, one goal at even strength, and another with an extra skater 26 seconds before the buzzer sounded.

Rivermen outshot the Kings 50-23 overall, and 12-6 in a third period where the home team scored the only goal, making the final 4-3.

Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero  scored the first two Powell River goals, his sixth and seventh of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season, one in the last minute of the opening period and another 39 seconds into period two. In addition to his goal, Jones had a pair of assists for a three-point night. Anthony Lucarelli, Alex Bosland and Noah Eyre helped set up one goal each for the visitors.

Owen Crudale made 46 saves for Powell River. Attendance was 959.

Kings next action is Tuesday, October 24, against Penticton Vees. The game will be played at Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle. The teams met earlier this month at Powell River Recreation Complex, with the Kings coming out on top in a shootout.
