Powell River Villa hosted Cowichan Axis FC on October 21, when the two teams produced one of the more exciting Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) matches in recent memory, according to Villa manager Chris McDonough.
“Villa supporters saw end-to-end action and a load of goal scoring chances from both teams on Saturday afternoon at Timberlane Park,” said McDonough.
One goal was all the home team needed to secure the 1-0 win and three points in VISL Division 1 standings.
“At the 87th minute, Casper Poelen tapped in a rebound from a Jerod Timothy shot to beat the Cowichan keeper,” said McDonough. “[Villa] goaltender Matt Liknes was back in net after missing the last two games with injury and made crucial saves throughout the game to preserve the clean sheet.”
The win extended Villa’s unbeaten streak to four games.
Villa plays its second of three straight home games on Saturday, October 28, versus Lakehill FC (Victoria). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
