Powell River U18 Kings keep undefeated record in tact

Minor hockey team posted wins over two Vancouver Island teams last weekend

Powell River U18 Kings remained udefeated in regular league play this season (eight wins, no losses and one tie) by defeating a pair of Vancouver Island teams last weekend.

Ben Belyea led the way with a hat-trick versus Cowichan Valley U18 Capitals at Powell River Recreation Complex on December 7. Kings trailed after the first period but scored the only three goals of period two, including two by Belyea, who also notched the winner in the third period.

In addition to scoring the other two goals in a 5-3 win, Chase Fontaine was credited with a trio of assists. Belyea, Jackson Peters, Connal Miller (two), Evan Penner and Jeremy Pukesh set up one goal each.

Powell River travelled to Campbell River to face the Tyees the following afternoon and skated to an 8-2 win. Fontaine added four more goals to his weekend tally, including the eventual game winner with just under three minutes remaining in the first period.

Noah Culos, Pukesh and Lucas Wadsworth (two) rounded out the scoring for the visitors at Strathcona Gardens. Assists were recorded by Weston Kolba (two), Reece Deeble (two), Evan Piniewski (two), Keaton Bryce, Pukesh, Culos, Jaxon Peters, Belyea, Miller and Paxton Schreiber.
