U13C Powell River Kings earned their first golden crown at the Port Alberni Minor Hockey Tournament last month. The team worked hard to win all three games in pool play and went on to secure an exciting 6-5 victory in the gold medal game against Langley.

Eight teams battled hard in the round-robin tournament that saw the Kings advance to the finals, where they faced off against Langley for the gold medal. A goal from Langley late in the third period forced five minutes of three-on-three overtime, but the tie remained. The win came from a shootout.

En route to the gold medal game, Powell River defeated Coquitlam 8-0, Oceanside 10-2 and Lake Cowichan 11-2. Over the weekend, 10 of 16 players were involved in scoring or setting up goals.

U13C Kings travel to Campbell River for that association’s U13C Recreation Tournament on the weekend of December 27 to 29.
