An undefeated run at the Coquitlam Gold Classic from November 8 to 11 culminated in a gold medal for Powell River U18 Kings.
During the round-robin portion of the tournament, Powell River beat Coquitlam 5-2 on November 8, edged Semiahmoo (4-3) and downed a team from Winnipeg 7-4 on November 9, and skated past North Delta (4-1) on November 10.
Goaltender Luke Dennis recorded a shutout in the semi-final, a 1-0 win over West Kelowna on November 11. He also picked up an assist on the lone goal of the game, scored by Nathan Gruntman in the third period. Lucas Wadsworth was also credited with an assist.
Wadsworth scored a pair of goals in the gold medal game later that same day, which Powell River won by a score of 6-2 over Winnipeg. Other goal scorers were Reece Deeble, Chase Fontaine, Noah Culos and Paxton Schreiber.
The other goaltender in Powell River’s tandem, Leo Brosseau, was also “a rock” throughout the tournament, according to manager Chuck Schreiber.
U15 Kings also won gold last weekend, as hosts of a tournament at Powell River Recreation Complex.
