Powell River U15 and U13 hockey teams post wins, loss and tie

Minor hockey clubs play road games over final weekend of October

Powell River U15 Kings returned home after earning a win and a tie on a weekend road trip to Vancouver Island.

Chase Fontaine led the way with a four-goal performance in a 9-3 win over Cowichan on October 29. Carter Stekman, Paxton Schreiber, Beau Gagne and Kai Nouwens also scored for Powell River, who led 2-1 after 20 minutes and 8-1 heading into the third period.

The following afternoon, U15 Kings skated to a 3-3 tie in Juan de Fuca. Stekman and Gagne staked Powell River to a 2-1 second period lead after the home team opened the scoring in the first period.

Kings fell behind 3-2 in the third period but Fontaine scored the equalizer with 3:42 remaining in the game.

U13C

Two third-period goals gave Powell River U13C Kings a  5-4 comeback win over Comox Valley Flyers at Glacier Gardens on October 29.

Jack Murphy tied the game at four with eight minutes remaining, then Daelin Austin added the winner four minutes later.

Andon Palmquist, Gabriel Cudmore and Murphy each scored in the first period. The home team notched a pair of goals in each of the first two periods but were held off the scoresheet in the final frame.

U13A

Colby Hobbs scored the lone goal for the U13A Kings in a 5-1 loss to Victoria Racquet Club, also on October 29.

The U13A squad faced another tough opponent at Oak Bay Recreation Centre on October 30. Victoria Admirals scored multiple goals in each period en route to a 10-2 win.

Lucas Gruntman and Kooper Kozmeniuk were the only two Powell River players to find the back of the net.
