Turner Richards is the latest addition to the Powell River Kings roster, joining the lineup after a weeklong tryout.

Powell River Kings announced two roster moves on November 4.

The BC Hockey League (BCHL)) club has traded 2003 forward Colin MacDougall to the Navan Grads of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL)  in exchange for future considerations. To fill the roster spot opened up by the trade, the Kings signed 2004 forward Turner Richards.

A dual citizen from Minocqua, Wisconsin, Richards started the 2022/2023 BCHL season with Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCHL), where he recorded three assists in nine games. Like new teammates Casey Aman, Will Jones, Anthony Yu and Noah Eyre, Richards is an alumnus of Shattuck-St. Mary’s (Faribault, Minnesota). He played at the prep school for three seasons, all of them with Jones and Yu and two with Eyre.

Richards had been skating with the Kings for the past week on a tryout basis and performed well, according to general manager Chad van Diemen.

“Credit to him for coming in and forcing us to make a difficult decision,” stated van Diemen, in a media release. “He’s made the most of an opportunity and has earned a spot on our roster.”

Richards will make his Kings debut tonight (November 4) in Surrey against the Eagles.

MacDougall was acquired in the offseason and played in 12 games for the Kings, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
