It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of our sweet Ginette, beloved wife of Joe Walkinshaw. She passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023, at qathet General Hospital.
Ginette Fernande Sabourin was born on December 4, 1950, in Alma, Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. She married in Alma in 1973 to the love of her life, Joe. They moved to Powell River in 1980 to start a new chapter in their lives. She learned to speak English and trained as a chef at the Vancouver Vocational Institute and worked at the Westview Inn, the Marine Inn and finally at Quality Foods. Ginette took great pride in her role as a chef, working tirelessly with her gentle charm and sense of humour to make every situation better.
Ginette loved to cook and join friends at weekly aquacize classes, but most of all, she loved being a mother to her children, John and James Walkinshaw, and a grandmother to her grandson, Ronan Walkinshaw.
Ginette will be dearly missed by all. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her gentleness, passion for her family, the memory of her smile and a good laugh. She will be forever loved and missed.
The Celebration of Life will be held in Quebec at a later date to be determined.
