Campbell River BC Highway Patrol was in Powell River from August 16 to 18 to assist Powell River RCMP in targeting impaired driving and other Motor Vehicle Act infractions. Over the weekend, BC Highway Patrol officers conducted multiple check stops at various locations and issued the following for impaired driving:
Four 90-day immediate driving prohibitions; two three-day immediate driving prohibitions; two 24-hour driving prohibitions for alcohol; one 24-hour driving prohibition for drugs; and one 12-hour driving suspension for alcohol.
Officers also issued Motor Vehicle Act violation tickets for speeding and driving without insurance.
Many members of the public coming through the check stops expressed their appreciation for the extra police presence in the community.
Powell River RCMP responded to 152 total calls for service from August 14 to 20, including 10 thefts, two break and enters, 10 impaired driving incidents, three assaults, eight cases of mischief and 11 related to mental health.
