First Snow Day; Elf’s Best Wish; Holiday Bash; Santa’s Stress Leave

First Snow Day

Elizabeth Brown, Grade 6
Edgehill Elementary School

The fox kit’s eyes widened as he looked at the frozen landscape. It had snowed overnight!

In his short experience of life on earth, he had only known the world as orange and brown.

“What happened? Why did the ground give way?” he said as his sister bounded outside the cave.

"Come on! It’s just snow!" she shouted as she bounced into the white stuff.

He cautiously put one paw into the snow; it was wet…and cold! And it made a funny crunching sound when he stepped on it.

Gathering all the courage he could muster, he leaped into the snow, sending white powder flying everywhere. They laughed and played in the snow all day, making patterns with their tails and rolling down snowbanks.

"Again! Again!" he shouted as he raced his sister back to the top.

By the time their mother called them back, his little heart was racing, and his soul was full.

As he crawled up against his mother's fur to sleep, he wished for morning to come quickly so he could play in the snow once again.

Elf’s Best Wish

Matvei Zonov, Grade 6
École Côte du Soleil

Once upon a time there was an elf named Small (his name was Small because the elf was very short). He lived in Elfiland (the country where only elves live).

The elf really wanted to work with Santa Claus’s other elves. Small needed to be one of three winners of a race that happened once a year before going to help Santa Claus. So, Small went to try winning the race.

He almost was at the finish line in a couple seconds, but ahead of him was another elf (his name was Speedy because he was always faster than the others), who was definitely about to win, but suddenly, Speedy tripped and fell!

Small stopped and ran back to Speedy because he thought that Speedy needed help. So, Small helped Speedy and they went together to the finish line.

But after all that, Small finished last! He was so sad because it was one of his chances to work for Santa Claus.

Meanwhile, the judges were whispering for five minutes and decided that Small had won. So, this is what the judges said: “Because you helped someone else you are going to be one of Santa Claus’s workers.”

You can’t imagine how happy Small was. Finally, his wish had come true!

Holiday Bash

Annabelle Shostak, Grade 6
Kelly Creek Community School

It’s time for the Holiday Bash. Elves, polar bears, reindeers, gingerbread people, snow people and penguins. They all came!

They meet up at the party shed. The elves are there first to set up before everyone gets there. They all get there and one of the penguins is the DJ. And they start off by playing the game: pin the nose on the snowman. Then they had a dance battle, polar bears against reindeers, and the polar bears won.

They started to sing Christmas songs and have some punch, cookies, cake, candy canes and hot chocolate.

A little later the gingerbread people felt like something was missing. Then they realized what was missing, the elves forgot to invite Santa but they decided not to tell anyone so they wouldn't ruin the party.

It was time to tell everyone what they wanted for Christmas. The elves wanted sleds, the polar bears wanted fish tacos, the reindeers wanted books, the gingerbread people wanted dolls, the snow people wanted jackets and the penguins wanted stuffies.

Then one of the gingerbread people couldn't help it anymore and they said, “You guys forgot to invite Santa!”

Everyone gasped but the elves did not gasp, they got so worried that Santa would find out. Then they heard a knock on the door. One of the elves opened it and said “HIDE!”

It was Santa, but he did not care that they forgot to invite him, he just wanted to hang out.

Santa’s Stress Leave

Sunny Hillier, Grade 6
École Côte du Soleil

December 20, 3:37 pm

Santa paced nervously around his now-empty-of-elves workshop. Why had he fired all his little helpers? Now he had to make all the toys himself!

It was too much to bear! The Easter Bunny called: “Are you ready?”

Santa was going off on stress leave with him. He hopped in the sleigh and off they went to the Easter Bunny’s den.

4:37 pm

When they arrived, the Easter Bunny suddenly suggested that they go for a vacation. He was like that. They started packing that night.

December 21, 10:56 am

Santa slept in. He woke up to the Easter Bunny knocking frantically at his door. Santa jumped out of bed and threw on his vacation clothes, grabbed his suitcase and practically flew out to his sleigh. The Easter Bunny joined him and they made their way to the BC Ferries terminal.

1:00 pm

They got there just in time, or so they thought. “Stop!” said the ticket agent. “This ferry is full.”

The Easter Bunny’s mouth fell open, and Santa said: “What? But we got here right on time!”

“I’m sorry,” said the ticket agent, “but you’ll have to wait for the next ferry at 4:30.”

“That’s in like, three hours!” said Santa.

Three hours later

Santa and the Easter Bunny were first in line and drove up to the till.

“Hold up there! Your… sleigh is too long!” said the ferry attendant. “I suggest you go home.”

Santa huffed angrily, and the Easter Bunny mumbled: “We should have made a reservation.”
