Celebrating Christmas
Timofei Zonov, Grade 8
École Côte du Soleil
Inside their small house, a poor family was celebrating Christmas. There was a snowstorm outside.
They were having a traditional Christmas dinner, which consisted of turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and vegetables. While eating, they appreciated each other’s presence at the table, celebrating Christmas together.
In their neighbour’s house, there was a super-rich family celebrating Christmas, too, but they weren’t enjoying Christmas as much as the poor family, because they were only looking into their computers, investing in stocks.
Suddenly, a blizzard hit and became so strong that it tore through their town’s power grid. The rich family couldn’t invest into stocks anymore, and then they realized how nice it is to see each other’s faces, to speak, to tell jokes, to taste how good the turkey is.
After installing candle lights in the house they invited the poor family to their big house to celebrate Christmas, and all together, they appreciated it.

Frosty days and super-cold nights
The big pretty tree, filled with tiny lights
Footprints cover all the snow
The white outside has such a glow.
Laying in my bed, tucked-in tight
I just can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve night
The morning’s here, finally
Walked down the stairs, so silently.
When I see the Christmas tree, I begin to cheer
Omg, omg, Santa was here!
My family is finally awake
I’m so excited, I just can’t wait.
All the presents under the tree
I can’t believe so many are from thee!
I love the gifts, but what means more to me
Is being around my family 'cause it’s the place I want to be.

Housewife No Longer
Olivia Gottfried, Grade 9
École Côte du Soleil
Christmas is over
Santa’s asleep
The elves are all snoring
Piled in a heap.
The reindeer are out munching
Their giants stacks of hay
But this just marks the start
Of Mrs. Claus’s day.
The kitchen must be cleaned
The pets must be fed
She must carry all the elves
Back to their beds.
The laundry must be done
And the sleigh vacuumed out
The toilets need scrubbing
She needs to fix the sink spout
The food for tomorrow
Must also be prepared
All this went through her head
As she stood and she stared.
“Maybe I won’t”
She said to herself
“Maybe I’ll sit back
And eat that bag of chips on the shelf.”
Maybe this year
Santa would see this was it
Maybe this year
He would deal with his...

Christmas Story
Yoshun Kita-Sternberg, Grade 9
École Côte du Soleil
Once upon a time there was a ghost who lived in a family’s attic.
He was small and had bright white sheets covering him.
Every day, he always did the same thing, namely just floating around. When the family was gone, he explored the house; he liked seeing the family photos because they reminded him of his own family. One day while exploring he saw a new photo of the family celebrating Christmas. This made him sad because every Christmas he was always alone, he felt like nobody cared about him, so he decided he was going to try to change that.
The next day he went downstairs while the family was watching television and said, “Hello my name is Gus, the ghost, I live in your attic.”
The family started screaming, “Oh my god, there’s a ghost,” while crying. The ghost flew back to his attic. Later that day he heard footsteps walking up the stairs, a little girl opened the door and said, “Hello mister ghost, we’re sorry for getting scared earlier, we were just so shocked seeing you.”
“It’s fine,” said the ghost. “I totally understand.”
Then the girl said, “Would you like to come celebrate Christmas with us?”
The Ghost was ecstatic, he couldn’t wait! He said, “Are you sure?”
The girl responded, “Of course.”
So the ghost and the family celebrated Christmas together and for the first time in years the ghost finally felt appreciated, and they lived a happily ever ending.
