From flooded basements to fire damage, dealing with the cleanup after a natural event or accident is never simple or straightforward. Homeowners need someone they can trust to help them restore their homes. When disaster strikes, help is available locally from Winmar Powell River.
Winmar is a Canadian property restoration company that has been in business for more than 50 years and has over 100 locations across the country, says Winmar Powell River co-owner Dylan Parsons.
“We purchased the Winmar franchise for Powell River,” he says.
Dylan and Ingrid Parsons, a fourth generation Powell River family, opened the business locally in November. Dylan says buying the franchise made sense for them because although they have many years of experience working in residential and commercial construction and renovations with Parsons Properties, teaming up with Winmar provided an almost turnkey solution.
“It was really a no-brainer for us,” he says. “We are using the Winmar name because it's just easier. Everything is already just there.”
Winmar offers a wide range of restoration services and customer service is a key focus, he adds. The company is open 24 hours per day 365 days a year and aims to have a project manager on site within one hour after being contacted, says Dylan.
“We offer prompt and professional services to help our customers get back to pre-loss life with the least amount of interruption and associated costs as possible,” he adds.
One of the most common forms of property damage comes from water. Flooding, sewer backups, pipe bursts, appliance and plumbing overflows, and water used to suppress fires all contribute to water damage. If not treated immediately, water and flood damage has the potential to escalate into a serious emergency, says Dylan.
Fire is devastating and can take an emotional toll whether it happens in a residence or at a business. Winmar is able to come in, survey the damage caused by the fire and smoke and start working to bring the structure back to its pre-disaster state, says Dylan.
The company also specializes in household cleaning because floods and fires also damage people’s possessions. It provides specialized on-site equipment and trained technicians to process, clean and disinfect customers’ contents to pre-loss conditions.
The company’s technicians are all IICRC certified professionals and carry WorkSafeBC insurance, says Dylan. They are trained to recognize and remediate any mould issues they encounter in a safe and contained manner, he adds.
In addition to mould removal, the company is also certified to perform asbestos abatement. Asbestos can be found in materials such as insulation, flooring, plaster, textured ceilings, register vents, duct wrap and roof shingles. Homeowners who suspect they have asbestos should avoid disturbing asbestos materials and instead call Winmar to have us deal with it, says Dylan.
Winmar Powell River will also do general contracting and can assist homeowners in range of renovations and home improvement projects, he adds.
"We pretty much do everything besides building new homes," says Dylan. "If you need a deck repaired we'll come and do that, but the majority of the work is insurance work."
As is the case with Dylan and Ingrid’s other businesses, they plan to continue supporting Powell River youth sports teams and other community non-profits with their new business.
