One of the qathet region’s longest‑running businesses is stepping into its next half‑century in brand-new digs.
Kelly’s Health Shop, founded in 1975, has relocated to a larger storefront on Marine Avenue and will combine its 50th‑anniversary celebration with a public grand opening on Saturday, May 31.
“It’s the space I’ve pictured since buying the store back in 2017,” says owner Nicole Rumley. “Finding the right location took patience, but the extra room finally lets us offer the complete shopping and learning experience I’ve always envisioned.”
The new shop features wider aisles, expanded product displays and a dedicated area for seminars and workshops, which is an educational focus Rumley has introduced over the past seven years.
“Wellness is about more than supplements on a shelf. Our customers want credible information, so we host talks on nutrition, herbal medicine and lifestyle changes. The extra floor space means bigger classes and more hands-on demos.”
The owner credits her background in competitive sport for the mix of creativity and strategic planning that brought the project to life.
“Athletics teaches you to set a goal and stick with it. This move demanded that mindset, and a lot of persistence.”
For Rumley, the 50th anniversary stands for “stability, trust and commitment” built over decades by three sets of owners. Founders James and Ann McKenzie ran the shop until 1989, when Reg and Stella Gillies took the helm. Rumley became the third owner eight years ago.
“Fifty years is a testament to our loyal customers. Some families have shopped here for generations. The grand opening is as much a thank-you party for them as it is a ribbon‑cutting.”
Plans for May 31 include music, product samples and prizes, all with a 1970s theme nodding to the store’s inaugural year. Details will be finalized once the staff finish settling into the new space.
Rumley singled out landlord Lina Johnston for “believing in my vision” and local contractors Ken Jantz Construction and Nu‑Trend Design for transforming the space.
“There was a whole team behind these walls. I’m grateful to every carpenter, electrician, family member and friend who worked to deadline so we could reopen quickly.”
She also praised her staff of herbalists and nutritionists—collectively representing more than a century of natural‑health experience—for sharing the load during the move.
“Their dedication keeps our standards high and our advice honest. If we don’t know an answer, we find it.”
With the relocation complete, the goal is to ensure Kelly’s remains the region’s “natural‑health hub” well into the future.
“Wellness trends change, but the need for trustworthy guidance doesn’t. This new space lets us keep growing with our community for the next 50 years.”
Kelly’s Health Shop is now open at 4717 Marine Avenue. Customers can follow store updates and grand‑opening details on social media, including facebook.com/KellysHealthShopPR and instagram.com/kellyshealthshoppr, or visit in person for the same friendly advice, just with a little more elbow room.
