By adding the Yamaha brand to the line of products and services available at Two Wheel Tech, owner/operator Derek Jantz is living a dream.
“It really is a perfect fit for me, because all my training was at a Yamaha dealership,” says Derek. “That’s where I started my career and now I’m coming back to it.”
A Red Seal-trained and certified motorcycle technician born and raised in Powell River, Derek began the pursuit of owning his own business by studying at BCIT; he graduated in 2002, prior to training at a five-star Yamaha dealership in Vancouver.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own shop and dealership and it’s happening in my hometown,” says Derek. “I couldn’t ask for anything more, it’s my dream.”
Two Wheel Tech will carry parts and accessories for all Yamaha products: marine engines, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), personal watercraft (PWCs), snowmobiles and generators.
“We are going to have lots of parts in stock, basic necessities for getting you going the same day,” says Derek. “Yamaha makes everything; it’s a huge brand.”
Brand-new Yamaha marine outboard engines, ATVs and generators will be on display in the new showroom.
“We are branching into the marine area a lot more, which is a big part of the Yamaha business in town,” says Derek. “I plan to bring in new Yamaha motorcycles soon as well.”
Although Two Wheel Tech is now the local registered dealer for anything and everything Yamaha-related, customers can be assured the same parts, technology and equipment previously available for all other powersport and marine brands still exist at the shop.
“Our services haven’t changed, we’re just extending them,” explains Derek. “We’re still the go-to place for repairing all brands of
motorcycles, ATVs, PWCs, snowmobiles and generators. We have the capability to do all that work; everything is serviced and repaired here.”
To handle the additional volume of outboard engine servicing, a new marine mechanic will be added to the current staff, which includes Red Seal-trained technicians Martin Chalupiak and Sebastian Clemens.
“We have young guys here, we’re fresh and have new energy,” says Derek. “We want to pump new energy into the Yamaha outboard and ATV industry. For anything Yamaha, come and see us.”
Each staff member is qualified to work on small engines of any kind, including tuneups and engine rebuilds. Each technician comes from a different background, enabling Two Wheel Tech to provide customer service in all powersport areas.
“Our new team is ready, willing and able to take on all marine customers,” says Derek.
As a result of taking over as Powell River’s exclusive Yamaha dealer, an influx of stock items from the previous dealer will be available to Two Wheel Tech customers. Overflow inventory will be on sale throughout the month of June, with discounts anywhere from 30 to 50 per cent off on selected items.
“We will have helmets, goggles, chains, sprockets and miscellaneous popular items on discount, and not just Yamaha,” says Derek. “Get it while it lasts and come check out the new store.”
Two Wheel Tech is open from 9 am-5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, at its new location, 7564A Highway 101 (old bottle depot).
“The new space is fantastic and more efficient for us; it’s a better for customers as well,” says Derek. “With a huge parking lot and two entrances, customers can easily pull in and out with their boats, and with good frontage on the highway we are easy to find.”
