Royal Zayka’s new buffet provides diners with a great option for sampling diverse recipes from northern India. From 5-8:30 pm Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, the buffet features 24 items, including chicken, beef, fish and vegetarian dishes as well as papadum, rice, pakoras, basmati pulao, naan, salads, fruits and desserts.
“The buffet changes all the time,” explains owner Mahesh Kuniyal. “It is not the same every day; you always get a variety.”
Spice levels are kept mild for most dishes and each item is labeled accordingly.
“We keep one dish hot, like a spicy chicken curry,” says Mahesh, “and there is spicy hot sauce at the buffet for people to add if they wish.”
Customers looking to experience Indian cuisine and culture will find more than just a vast array of tastebud-tantalizing dishes to satisfy their cravings at the restaurant. To top off an extraordinary culinary experience, one lucky diner will win return airfare for one person from Vancouver to Delhi. Entries are now being accepted from dine-in customers; the draw will be held December 23.
“It will be an early Christmas present for someone,” says Mahesh. “It should be quite exciting.”
Entering the new contest is simple, not to mention delicious. Forms are available at facebook.com/royalzayka and in the Peak Weekender (page three). Healthy appetites and dining at Royal Zayka, 6275 Marine Avenue in Townsite, are the only entry requirements.
Regular dinner hours are 4:30-9:30 pm, seven days per week; lunch hours are 11 am-2:30 pm Monday to Friday, and noon to 2:30 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Two regular menus are available: one specifically for lunch specials and a regular dinner menu.
Lunch specials include meat, vegetarian or lentil options; each comes with rice, salad and naan for $9.95.
For lunch or dinner takeout orders, which Mahesh says are, “available all the time,” or to book reservations, private parties and catering services, call 604.414.0143.
Chef’s dinner specials are also new and include vegetarian or non-vegetarian curries, rice, naan, salad, raita and rice pudding; price is $49.95 for two or more people.
“You can choose the curry or let one of our chefs make the decision,” says Mahesh.
Royal Zayka’s outdoor patio is now open for customers to enjoy at all times.
“When it’s hot, people want to sit outside,” says Mahesh. “They can enjoy their meals with a nice view.”
