Letter: City of Powell River Council should join Big Oil lawsuit

I considered deferring my property taxes this year now that I’m a senior. They increased again and it’s a hard pill to swallow.

My child support payments have increased, and my son’s school fees and activities are more expensive. The house feels like it’s falling down around my ears. The hot weather and lack of rainfall has dried up the wood and the deck and stairs are falling apart.

Thankfully, we haven’t had severe forest fires or flooding. But wells have dried up and our lakes are down.

The impacts on our infrastructure from climate change will have to be addressed by the city through property taxes, so I pay them.

I think the City of Powell River Council should join the lawsuit to sue Big Oil [“Sue big oil lawsuit proposal presented to Powell River Council,” July 13] for lying to us about the harms we’ve brought on our children from unlimited burning of coal and oil.
