It was my great pleasure to attend the International Kathaumixw Choral Festival in Powell River last week.

It was a wonderful gathering of renowned choirs from across Canada and the USA.

The many concerts and adjudicated competitions were nothing but excellent in every respect, from the musicianship and enthusiasm of the singers to the smooth running machine that made everything run on time and without a hitch.

I was also impressed with the amount of support this festival receives from the city, and the businesses and residents of Powell River, whether financially, as volunteers at the festival or as hosts for the choirs visiting your community.

I am sure my views are shared by the hundreds of people who gathered in Powell River this week for Kathaumixw 2023. This is a remarkable and unique example of what a small city can achieve when everyone pitches in to make things happen.

Coming from the Comox Valley (where we have none), I was also envious of the number of excellent performance halls that your city supports.

Kudos to Powell River Academy of Music and its great team who put this festival together every two years.
