Villa plays Sunday

Powell River Villa's final game of the Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) season, originally scheduled for Sunday, March 13, was postponed due to poor field conditions at Timberlane Park after heavy rainfall in the days leading up to the match. VISL has rescheduled the game versus Saanich's Prospect Lake Lakers for this Sunday, March 20. Kickoff is set for 1 pm at Timberlane Park.

Riptide girls

Upper Island Riptide U16 girls soccer club qualified for the 2016 BC Provincial A Cup with a 3-2 overtime win Saturday, March 5, over Upper Island Storm. Riptide's roster includes two players from Powell River: Sophia Milsom and Carsyn Casparie, who sent the game to extra time with a tying goal early in the second half, and former Powell River resident Jillian Banks. Players from Comox Valley and Campbell River round out the lineup. The four-team, round-robin championship tournament is scheduled for July 7-10 in Burnaby.

Riptide boys

Upper Island Riptide U16 boys soccer club, including Powell River's Cullen Buholzer, were eliminated from further Vancouver Island Premier League playoff action after losing on penalty kicks to Saanich Fusion on Sunday, March 6. The game, tied 2-2 after regulation and extra time, was a replay of a contest Riptide won last weekend, only to have the result negated after Saanich successfully protested the result to the league due to a referee error.
