CHARITY CHALLENGE: Organizers and participants planning and/or taking part in the upcoming Steve Steele Charity Shield Boxing Day soccer match include [from left] Iain Livingstone, Jerod Timothy, Russell Pielle, James Timothy, Gloria Francis, Dave McMaster and Todd Phillips.

The Steve Steele Charity Shield soccer event is set to be played at Timberlane Park on Boxing Day, kicking off at 1:30 pm.

The game will feature a talented Tla’amin Braves team challenging the Stevie’s Steelers team composed of local players. Fans can expect an action-packed game.

The event is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army and Powell River Action Centre Food Bank, with more than $1,000 worth of prizes and a 50/50 guaranteed at a minimum of $500 available to fans who attend. It is also an opportunity to recognize community members and groups who have shown outstanding dedication and commitment.

This year, Tony Leach, Todd Phillips, Duncan MacDougall and the Senior Women’s League will be acknowledged for all the efforts they have made toward the promotion of soccer in the community.

The annual event provides an opportunity to visit with friends, provide support to a need in the community, and a chance to be entertained by skilled players. A fun halftime show of a youth rep players mini game will also be exciting for fans to watch.

Organizers hope to see a large crowd for this family friendly soccer event.
