Powell River U18 Kings finish provincials with even record

Local team beats hosts in final round-robin game at BC Hockey Tier 3 Championship

Smithers Civic Centre is the host venue for the 2024/2025 BC Hockey U18 Tier 3 Provincial Hockey Championship.

Powell River U18 Kings skated to a convincing 7-2 win over the host club from Smithers at the BC Hockey Tier 3 Championship on Wednesday, March 19.

The win evened the Kings’ record at two wins and two losses in the round-robin portion of the tournament, placing the team third in Pool B behind Whistler and South Okanagan. The top two teams in each pool advance to the medal round.

Beau Jameson Gagne scored four of his team’s seven goals. Jaxon Peters, Ben Belyea and Evan Piniewski also scored for Powell River. Assists were credited to Piniewski (two), Gagne, Chase Fontaine, Nathan Gruntman, Noah Culos and Lyndon Jacques.

Whitehorse and Mission topped Pool A and will join Whistler and South Okanagan in medal round games on March 20 and 21.

Powell River opened the tournament with a win over Dawson Creek, then suffered a loss to South Okanagan, followed by another defeat to Whistler
