Thursday was time to shake the rust off as Sechelt Rusty Cranks hosted Powell River Rusty Nuts in the first half of their annual oldtimers hockey match.

The game did not disappoint as the end-to-end action had people in the crowd on the edge of their seats for the full two hours, according to the Rusty Nuts' manager. In the end the home team prevailed, posting a hard-fought 5-4 victory and sending their fans home happy.

Scoring for Powell River were Darryl "Break-away" Gurney, Dan Bourassa, Brent Saniger and JJ Jewra. Jim Blom was solid again between the pipes in the loss and Bart McDonald got the nod as the Rusty Nuts player of the game.

Rusty Nuts will now prepare for the second half of the home-and-home series, which is scheduled for late February.
