Powell River Regals’ goaltender Laszlo Tamasik is no stranger to winning championships.
The puck stopper who graduated from the Powell River Minor Hockey system won a Coy Cup with the Regals in 2010, then led his Alliston Hornets to the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League championship the following year. In game seven of the final series, Tamasik posted a 1-0 shutout over Stayner Siskins.
Tamasik also spent part of a season with North Bay Trappers of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and appeared in one game for his hometown Powell River Kings of the BC Hockey League. He gives credit to former goalie coach Kim Dillabaugh and former Regals’ coach Rick Hopper for influencing his development.
Away from the rink Tamasik works as a recreation aquatics and fitness instructor in Esquimalt.
In his most recent outing, Tamasik led the Regals to a 6-4 win over Nanaimo Steelmen in game two of the best-of-five McCallum Cup West Coast Senior Hockey championship series. His 31-save performance at Hap Parker Arena on March 8 helped his team tie the series at one game apiece. Regals won game three the next night to take a 2-1 series heading into game four this weekend (March 15) in Nanaimo. Game five, if necessary, also takes place in the Vancouver Island city (March 16).
Regals will host Coy Cup 2024, competed for by senior AA teams in BC, with regional winners from Penticton, Williams Lake and Terrace joining the home team at the tournament from March 26 to 30. Coy Cup tickets are available at the Peak, TAWS and Royal LePage-Powell River.
