Powell River Regals’ captain Jack Long is a product of the local minor hockey system. He also spent five seasons (2015 to 2020) playing for Powell River Kings in the BC Hockey League (BCHL), including serving as the team’s captain in his final season, which he refers to as his career highlight so far.

Although he skates as a defenceman, Long says his favourite player growing up was a forward: Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche legend Joe Sakic. He credits former Kings’ general manager and coach Tyler Kuntz (2018 to 2020) for influencing his development as a player the most.

Long, who when he is not at the rink works as a mechanic/commercial fisherman, has played for the Regals since aging out of the BCHL.

Regals will host Coy Cup 2024, competed for by senior AA teams in BC, with three regional winners joining the home team at the tournament in March. Tickets will be on sale as of Monday, February 5 (locations to be announced).

In continuing to prepare for the Coy Cup, Regals are travelling to Innisfail, Alberta, to face that province’s defending senior AAA champions on January 26 and 27. Earlier this month, the team played a pair of road games against a semi-professional club in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
