Prior to joining the Powell River Regals’ lineup last season, forward Nic Porchetta spent parts of five seasons playing for his hometown Powell River Kings in the BC Hockey League (BCHL), briefly as an affiliate player (five games), then as a regular (128 games).

His development started with Powell River Minor Hockey Association (PRMHA) as a youngster, when he was a member of an Atom playoff champion team, and later flourished at Delta Hockey Academy, where he played for four seasons (2016 to 2019).

In his final BCHL season, Porchetta was traded to the West Kelowna Warriors, which he refers to as his career highlight. He appeared in 24 regular season games for the Warriors and skated in 11 playoff games overall during his BCHL career.

He says former Kings’ coach Tyler Kuntz influenced his development the most, and that his National Hockey League idol was former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.

Away from the rink, Porchetta works as a carpenter/commercial fisher. In addition to practicing and playing for the Regals, he spends even more time at Powell River Recreation Complex as a PRMHA official.

Regals will host Rossland Warriors in a best of three Coy Cup qualification series at Hap Parker Arena this weekend. Game times are 7 pm on Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, and 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 9 (if necessary), with the winner advancing to final four Coy Cup BC championship in Prince Rupert during the last week of March.
