Powell River Regals opened their 70th anniversary season home schedule last weekend with a pair of games versus Jackson Hole Moose.
On October 18, the travel-weary visitors from Wyoming kept the first game close through two periods, trailing 3-2. The third period was another story, however. Regals dominated the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Moose 7-1 en route to a 10-3 win.
Mac Roy and Bryson Cecconi each scored twice for the Regals. Brock Sawyer, Ethan Schmunk, Matteo Porchetta, Nic Porchetta, Mitch Williams and Josh Gray had one goal apiece. Goaltender Ryan Fairgray turned aside 27 of the 30 shots he faced to earn the win.
Jackson Hole jumped ahead 1-0 the next night, but Powell River responded with late first period goals from Roy and Schmunk, then Roy added another pair in the second period to complete the hat trick and put the home team up 4-1. The visitors cut the lead to 4-2 prior to intermission but failed to get any closer.
Powell River sealed a 5-2 win with a Travis Granbois goal into an empty-net late in the third period. Dieter McIntosh made 28 saves in net for the Regals.
High school teams from the two communities also met in earlier each day and split a pair of games. Powell River won 9-2 on October 18 and lost 5-3 the following afternoon.
Regals played their first game of the 2024/2025 season last month in Lake Cowichan, losing in overtime to the host Appollos.
