Powell River Villa travelled Duncan on Sunday, October 20, to face Cowichan Axis. The home team came out ahead by a score of 3-1 and moved past the visitors in Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Division 1 standings.

“We opened the scoring at the 60th minute with a really nice five-way passing play, starting from goalkeeper Silas Hackett and ending with Jamie Perez sending Dane Slack in on a breakaway; he put the ball past the Cowichan keeper for his first VISL goal,” said Villa manager Chris McDonough.

Cowichan was able to equalize minutes later and quickly scored again to make it 2-1, according to McDonough. While pressing for an equalizer, Villa gave up another goal, making the final 3-1.

“We fielded a young side,” added McDonough. “We were missing a number of regulars.”

After seven games played, Villa is ninth in VISL Division 1 with six points, two behind Cowichan for sixth. Vic West is at the top of the table with 21 points from a perfect record of 7-0.

Villa hosts Comox Valley (tied for seventh with seven points) at Timberlane Park on Saturday, October 26. Kickoff is at 1:30 pm.
