Hunter McCoy’s second-period goal held up as the winner in Powell River Kings’ 2-1 over West Kelowna Warriors in BC Hockey League action at Hap Parker Arena on Friday, November 8.
McCoy’s sixth of the season, set up by Dawson McKay and Christian Buono, added to the 1-0 lead Nic Porchetta gave the home team at 13:53 of the first period.
West Kelowna finally solved Kings’ goaltender Derek Krall with just under eight minutes remaining in the game to cut the lead to one. Krall shut the door the rest of the way and was named first star after stopping 29 of 30 shots.
West Kelowna goaltender Johnny Derrick made 32 saves to earn second star honours ahead of Kings’ forward Jacob Badal, who was named the game’s third star.
Jacob Slipec assisted on Porchetta’s goal, the fourth of the season for the Powell River Minor Hockey Association product.
Attendance was 747.
Kings remain in fourth place in BCHL Island Division standings. Warriors rank sixth out of seven teams in the Interior Division.
Kings look for a second straight home win when they host Coquitlam Express on Sunday, November 10. Game time is 1:30 pm.
