Powell River Kings and Nanaimo Clippers met for the second time in less than 24 hours at Hap Parker Arena on Saturday, January 27.

It didn’t take long for new Kings’ goaltender Vincent Lamberti to impress his teammates and fans. In his debut, Lamberti stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn a shutout and first star honours in a 1-0 victory for the home team.

Simone Dadiè and team captain Anthony Lucarelli combined to set up Anthony Yu’s game-winner, his 14th goal of the BC Hockey league (BCHL) season, on a power play at 15:38 of the second period. Yu was named second star behind Lamberti and ahead of teammate Will Jones, who didn’t register a point but led a strong defensive effort by the Kings, who peppered Nanaimo goalie Tyler Hodges with 33 shots. Attendance was 1,056.

The two points moved ninth place Powell River to within three points of eighth place Langley in BCHL Coastal Conference standings. Nanaimo is tied for second place with Alberni Valley, 12 points behind first place Surrey.

In the first game of the weekend series, Nanaimo came out on top, also by one goal.
