Powell River U15 Kings celebrated a Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Division 2 league title and banner last weekend after beating Peninsula Eagles twice at Hap Parker Arena.

Kooper Kozmeniuk led the way offensively on January 20, scoring three times and setting up one goal in a 5-2 win. Jack Webber and Kesler Brown also scored for the Kings, who broke open a 2-2 tie after the first period with the eventual winner by Brown in the second period and added two insurance markers in the final frame. Assists were recorded by Lucas Gruntman (four), Cooper Lawry, Ryan Marshman and Webber.

Kozmeniuk scored four more goals the next day in an 11-2 romp over the visitors. Jackson Peters, Connal Miller, Kozmeniuk and Gruntman had first period markers. Miller added his second of the day, the lone second period goal for the Kings, who led 4-1 going into period three. Singles by Webber, Carson Laing, Gruntman and a trio from Kozmeniuk followed over the final 20 minutes. Lawry, Fawkes Barcelonne (two), James Barrows (two), Carter McDowell, Lucas Vizzzutti (two), Gruntman (two), Kozmeniuk, Laing, Webber and Gabriel Caldarone were credited with assists.

The team, which hasn’t lost a league or a tournament game all season, actually clinched the title one week earlier by sweeping a pair of games at home versus Cowichan Valley U15 Capitals.
