Powell River Kings’ forward Karter McNarland has committed to play NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division 1 hockey at University of Alaska-Anchorage.

McNarland originally committed to University of Vermont, but the Saskatoon product became a free agent recently. He is looking forward to the opportunity to play division one hockey.

“I’m super excited,” stated McNarland, in a media release. “Although things didn’t work out with Vermont, I found something that I really liked, and I’m just happy to get the opportunity and hopefully be an impact player right away when I get there.”

McNarland will join former Kings teammate Dylan Finlay, who is currently in his first season with the Seawolves at Alaska-Anchorage.

“I was talking to him every day,” stated McNarland. “He was letting me know how great of a spot it is, how happy he was there, and he recommended me coming; I’m glad it worked out.”

Heading into this weekend’s three game road trip, McNarland led the Kings in points (11) through 13 games this season, including three goals and eight assists.

McNarland and his teammates fell 7-0 to Surrey on Friday, November 4, but picked up a point on Saturday, November 5, in a 5-4 shootout loss in Coquitlam.

Kings play in Langley at 2:30 pm today (November 6).
