Powell River Kings returned to action on December 30 after a 13-day, BC Hockey League-wide holiday season break. The restart began at the same venue as their last game, Q Centre in Victoria, where the team suffered a 5-1 loss to the Grizzlies on December 17.
Kings were handed a similar fate by the hosts last night. Grizzlies scored once in each of the first two periods and added a pair of insurance goals in the final 20 minutes to win 4-1. Karter McNarland and Jack Blanchett combined to set up the lone Powell River goal, the sixth of the BCHL season for Cameron Symons, at 13:08 of the first period, cancelling out the game’s opening goal, which came on a power play and put Victoria ahead 1-0.
Both teams had six power plays in the game. Powell River went 0-6 with the extra skater while Victoria was successful on a pair of occasions.
Grizzlies outshot the Kings 32-31. Attendance was 1,313.
Powell River travels to Port Alberni for a New Year’s Eve matchup versus the Bulldogs at Alberni Valley Multiplex. Game time is 7 pm.
