For the second game in a row, Powell River Kings were unable to hold onto a second period lead, falling 4-3 to Cowichan Valley Capitals 24 hours after dropping a 3-2 decision in Port Alberni.
Nic Porchetta set up Caleb Parkhouse to open the scoring for Powell River 17 minutes into the first period, but Cowichan answered a minute later to even the score at one.
Just 24 seconds into period two, Parker Lalonde gave the Kings their second lead of the game, shorthanded and unassisted, with his 16th goal of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season. The home team responded with three straight goals over an eight-minute span, including the game winner at the midway point of the game.
Lalonde assisted on Ethan Riesterer’s ninth of the season to close out the scoring in the third period.
Powell River outshot the hosts 43-36. Attendance at Cowichan Community Centre was 914.
Kings face the Capitals again in Duncan on Sunday, February 27 (2 pm), before returning home to host the same team at Hap Parker Arena on Wednesday, March 2 (7 pm).
