Lawn bowling season begins

Game appeals to all ages

A new season of lawn bowling is set to begin at the Townsite greens.

This is the 92nd year of Powell River Lawn Bowling Club, and once again, tournaments will be aplenty during the summer months.

The club provides an opportunity for everyone to give the game a try. On opening day, Saturday, May 4, people are invited to visit the club at 12:30 pm at 5714 Marine Avenue where there will be members to help people start bowling. At 1:30 pm opening ceremonies will commence, followed by a game of lawn bowling for members. Members wishing to play should call the club house between 12:30 and 1 pm. The day ends with a potluck supper.

This year, students from Brooks Secondary School and Assumption School will participate at the club, as lawn bowling is a game for all ages. As a sport, it provides good exercise and plenty of fresh air. It is fun, too.

Throughout the season, ladies’ day is on Mondays and men’s day is on Wednesdays. Both start at 1 pm until the weather gets warmer then will go to an evening start of 7 pm. Tuesdays and Saturdays is mixed triples starting at 7 pm followed by socializing in the club house.

Members are asked to call the club house an hour to 30 minutes ahead if wishing to play, 604.414.0890.
