Powell River Regals’ forwards Ethan Schmunk (11) and Isaac Embree (18) converge in front of Penticton Silver Bullets’ net during a senior hockey game at Hap Parker Arena on October 20. Schmunk scored twice in a 5-2 win for the home team.

Ethan Schmunk scored twice in the first period, giving Powell River Regals a 2-1 lead over Penticton Silver Bullets after 20 minutes that they would never relinquish.

Schmunk opened the scoring 11:25 into the game at Hap Parker Arena; his second goal came just three seconds prior to intermission.

Regals extended the lead to 4-1 in the second period with goals from Jack Long and Alex Jalbert.

The teams traded goals in the third period. After the visitors made it 4-2 at the 13:42 mark, Brett Kinley added an insurance goal into an empty net with 13 seconds remaining in the game to make the final 5-2.

Ryan Fairgray, who stopped multiple breakaways in the second period, earned the win in goal.

“Ryan played very well, and our defence was solid,” said Regals’ coach Tod English. “Jack Long, Mike Behan, Gabe Shipley, Bekkam Willis, Kyle English and Brad Cimaglia all moved the puck well. First passes out of our zone made it easy for our offensive zone entries.”

Kinley also had a pair of assists, as did Isaac Embree and Willis. Jared Winkel helped set up one goal.

The teams, both of which have their sights set on hoisting the Coy Cup at season's end, meet again tonight (Saturday, October 21) at Hap Parker Arena. Game time is 7:30 pm.

BC senior men's AA hockey championship (Coy Cup) tournament will take place in late March at Hap Parker Arena.
