Coquitlam Express build lead, hang on to beat Powell River Kings

Home team scores three times in seven minute span of first period, then holds off visitors

Coquitlam Express jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and hung on to defeat Powell River Kings at Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre on Friday, October 20.

Adam Mendelson responded to the trio of goals with his second of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season for the Kings, cutting the lead to 3-1 in the final minute of the first period.

After a scoreless second period, Anthony Yu brought Powell River closer in the third period, converting on a power play with 12:55 remaining in the game, making the final 3-2. Noah Eyre helped set up both goals for the visitors, while Brendan Giles and Will Jones had one assist each.

Tresor Wotton made 24 saves for the Kings, who outshot the Express 33-27. Attendance was 1,192.

Powell River plays in Langely on Saturday, October 21.
