It has been a year worth celebrating for Powell River Lawn Bowling Club with many tournaments and lots of fun.
On May 7 the club opened its 90th season. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate but a game was played followed by a pot luck supper.
On June 24 old-time members visited and met with friends, probably also exchanging a few good tips with the new members on how to play the game, too. There was lots of talk about times gone by and a catered dinner to finish off the day.
Glorious weather was in store for the Jeff Sauvé tournament on July 24. Many players returned home as winners.
Approximately 75 people from out of town played against 21 local club team members in the biggest open tournament of the year held August 10 and 11. Each team played four games over the tournament.
Hawaiian Day social took place August 21 where everybody dressed up Hawaiian style, bowled to Hawaiian music and finished the day off with a barbeque.
Last tournament of the season was Dundee, held September 5 in fantastic weather. Many prizes were handed out and the day ended with a catered dinner.
To end the season, the club held its awards night on October 15. Many members won club trophies including Brian Miller, Wendy Larkin, Roy deGraag, Fred Dunlop, Greg and Cindy Frey, Jean Farris, Bill Small, Tim Street, Edith Holmes and Marge Jackson.
Rounding out the calendar year, the club holds a Christmas party and brings in the New Year at the club house.
