Powell River Kings' goaltender Cooper Flemming makes one of his 40 saves by thwarting Chilliwack Chiefs forward Caleb Elfering during a BC Hockey League game versus Chilliwack Chiefs at Hap Parker Arena on December 13.

Chilliwack Chiefs increased their lead atop BC Hockey League (BCHL) Coastal Conference standings with a 6-3 win over Powell River Kings at Hap Parker Arena on Friday, December 13.

Christian Maro, Jason Davenport and Brendan Giles scored for the Kings, who currently occupy 10th place in the same conference. The game was closer than the final score indicates as the visitors scored twice into an empty net when the hosts pulled goaltender Cooper Flemming after cutting the lead to 4-3 late in the third period.

Fleming made 40 saves for the Kings, who were outshot 46-25 on the night and couldn't convert on a pair of power play opportunities. Chiefs scored one goal with the extra attacker in four chances. Both empty net goals were shorthanded markers.

Calvin Beard, Giles and Landon Marleau recorded assists for Powell River. Attendance was 716.

The two teams meet again tonight (Saturday, December 14), also in Powell River. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.
