Atoms busy with games

Team shows strength through maintaining discipline

It has been a busy start to December for Powell River Canadian Tire Atom Development. Playing away on Saturday, December 3, the young hockey players met Victoria at Oak Bay Recreation Centre as part of Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) league play.

Powell River opened the scoring at 3:38 in the first period with Caleb Parkhouse scoring with an assist by Jonah McLaren.

Victoria scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead into the third. McLaren and Parkhouse scored goals in the third but it wasn’t enough to beat Victoria, ending in a 4-3 loss for Powell River.

The following day, Powell River faced off against Kerry Park in Mill Bay.

Powell River players came out flying taking a 3-0 lead into the second period.

Two goals were scored by Liam Schrieber with assists going to Parkhouse and McLaren. Parkhouse scored the third goal unassisted.

Parkhouse scored again in the second and McLaren secured victory in the third. The final score was 5-2 for Powell River.

Canadian Tire Kings have two wins and three losses in VIAHA league play, with a 3-2 win against Saanich and 6-4 loss against Kerry Park in November. Powell River will play on Saturday, December 10 in Parksville against Oceanside prior to the Christmas break and will resume league play in Campbell River on January 7.
