Powell River's Aces Volleyball Club continued its winning ways on the weekend [Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, 1998] when the girls' grade eight bantam team won gold at the provincial club championships.
The win adds to the gold medals already garnered by the club's juvenile and midget teams.
"We're the first club in the modern era of volleyball to win all three levels," said club coach Doug Skinner. "It's very special for the volleyball club and for all the kids who played in the tournament."
The team was ranked No. 2 going into the tournament, Skinner said.
"They're a very strong team. They clearly were the team with the best skills in the tournament," he added.
The team won all their matches in two pools in Saturday's play. On Sunday, they first met up with Kelowna, whom they beat. Then they played Victoria and won 15-10 and 15-5.
In the semi-finals, they played Vernon and won 15-13 and 15-7. in the final, they played BCO from North Vancouver and won 15-7 and 16-14.
"They didn't lose a match all weekend," said Skinner.
