It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lilian Iris Andersen on October 2, 2024, with family at her bedside.

Known mainly as Iris, she was predeceased by her husband Einar and her brother Gordon (Patricia). She had no children but was much loved by her nieces and nephew, Gordie, (Carole), Judy, (Gary), Karen, (Deon) and Penny, (Matt), whom she often mentioned that she thought of as her kids. Iris was well known and loved in her neighbourhood. From the garbage collector,

pharmacy staff, medical and dental staff, barber, handyman, grocery clerks and more, she was admired, respected and loved.

Iris was an independent soul and loved nature, animals and travel. It was nothing for her to decide to just get in the car, with a standard transmission and no radio, and drive across the country without telling anyone. Just to see what and who was out there. She was still driving up to four years ago until deciding that “it was getting too crazy out there.” She has many photo albums of her travels around the world. She was adventurous yet still loved her times in her own little home.

Her wishes are, “No funeral, no fuss.” Just a private family gathering during which her ashes will be spread amongst nature.

Because of her love for animals and nature, we ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her name to an organization of your choice that cares for animals or Mother Nature.

Thank you to all the staff at Ocean Front Village, doctors and nurses and staff at North Island Hospital, and VIHA and home care staff who looked after Iris these last few years.
