It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Elio Cossarin on October 12, 2024.
Elio was born on March 6, 1933, in Prodolone, San Vito al Tagliamento, Pordenone, Italy, to Pietro and Maria Cossarin.
Elio immigrated to Canada in 1950 to join his father in Powell River. He was hired at the mill, where he worked for the next 43 years.
He lived with his aunt and uncle, Maria and Dominice Francescutti, and their family, Elia, Ali and Delma, who became his second family. He remained with them until 1967, when he met and married the love of his life, Bernadette McCloskey.
Elio was a wonderful example of selfless giving and did so until the day of his death. His dedication to his family, church and community and to individuals with disabilities and the less fortunate, was extraordinary.
Elio was predeceased by his wife Bernadette on June 21, 2024. He is survived by his daughter Jackie (Ian), sons Peter and Jason; grandchildren Sophia, Estelle, Syrah and Logan, sister-in-law Ada, nieces and nephews in Italy and Canada, and many relatives and friends.
