A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to those who knew him was called home to be with Jesus, according to our Heavenly Father’s plan, on September 9, 2024.

John was born Saturday, April 18, 1936, to Fredrick William and Annie Murray Slomke in Fort William, Ontario, Canada. He was the youngest of four children, predeceased by Murray Slomke, Maxine Petzel and Margorie Harris. John is survived by his wife of over 59 years Rona Marion Slomke; his three children Elizabeth Ann Slomke, John Fredrick (Charissa) Slomke and Noelle Christine (Robert) Pagani; six grandchildren Allyson (Timothy) Emery, Rosalea (Wyatt Rogers) Pagani, Dalton John (Janine) Pagani, Andrew (Christine) Roper, Victoria Gwendolyn Slomke and John Fredrick Slomke III; and three great-grandchildren William Emery, Ava Noelle Rogers and Hunter Emery. John deeply loved his wife and his family, to whom he was profoundly committed.

John’s family and friends will always remember his genuinely kind and warm character, along with his love for the complex beauty, yet simplicity of flowers. He was an enthusiast of gourmet cooking and confections, much to the pleasure of those who he indulged. Those closest to him will remember his honesty and strong character, with many of his favourite quotes starting with “...father would say…”

No one will forget his staunch insistence on being properly dressed, no matter what the situation, which served him well in his personal and professional life. Most of all, John loved God and our Lord Jesus; he demonstrated this love as an effective leader and role model for his family and to those he had the privilege to know.

A service will be held at Luther Court, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, at 10 am on October 4, 2024 (1525 Cedar Hill Cross Road), followed by his internment at Hatley Memorial Gardens at 2 pm on October 4, 2024 (2050 Sooke Road). All who knew and loved John are welcome.
