Born May 5, 1948, to Edna and Arthur Aldcroft at Burnaby General Hospital, attended Moscrop High School in Burnaby and during these years travelling to Powell River (qathet) and visiting relatives there.
Travelled to Montreal in 1967 to attend Expo 67, worked there for the Hudson’s Bay Company and met her husband there in 1969. Married in Burnaby on May 29, 1971, opened a retail store in Gastown (Vancouver) and subsequently travelled back to Montreal, and onto the Netherlands to get acquainted with family. Returned to Vancouver and up to Powell River (qathet) in 1971, where she and her husband settled and raised a family.
Gwen was always involved with the arts and some of her work is on permanent display with La Ministre des Affaires Culturelles in Quebec. Gwen broadened her artistic horizons with many courses at Malaspina College (now VIU) and Emily Carr College of Design and Art, joined the Artist Co-op Artique and for some years became coordinator.
She was always the quiet voice of reason. She became a certified mariner and spent many happy hours boating with her husband Ted. Gwen had an epiphany in March of 1994 that allowed her to guide and work with many women in recovery.
Gwen is survived by her husband of 53 years Ted and children Christina (Brian), Julian (Michelle) and Theo (Michelle); brother Gary (Sherron) of Kelowna; grandchildren Tesla (Tyler), Zoey (Michael), Gabriella, Rowan and Carter; stepgrandchildren Maya, Caleb and Caiman; and many nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces.
Loved by many and will be missed. Celebration of life to be announced at a later time.
