George passed away peacefully on July 20 at Cowichan Hospice House in Duncan, BC. He was predeceased by his wife, Doreen (2006), his sister, Mary (1943) and his brother Samuel (Sam – 2014). He leaves behind his partner, Kathy Chapman; his brother Norm Rutherford (Shirley); his nieces Kathy Banville, Heather Reid and Kim Dutcyvich; and his nephews, Kevin Rutherford and Michael Rutherford.
George was born in Powell River and graduated from Brooks High School. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and did a variety of jobs before retiring to Duncan.
George had a sense of humour that permitted him to laugh at himself. He spent many hours working on improving his memory and entertained his family with the tricks he employed. As he aged, he refocused his activities on doing jigsaw puzzles, watching the Blue Jays on TV, and teaching Kathy to play pool.
George, Sam and Norm spent many happy times together golfing or bike riding on Vancouver Island.
