Barbara passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, at Evergreen Care Unit. Krista (her daughter) and partner Bob were at her side.
Barb was predeceased by her parents Elsie May (1993) and Jim (1991); her sisters Joan Makowichuk (2021), Margaret McClelland (2017); and her brother Robert (2001). She is survived by her brothers Brian (Betty) and Dennis (Diane); many nieces and nephews; cousin Nancy, best friend Judy Cook, and her wonderful neighbours Gloria and Diana.
In 2005, she made the move to Powell River. Her extensive training in the food industry was an ideal fit for managing the Lund Restaurant for one tourist season. She loved her jobs at the Olive Devaud Residence and Willington Creek. She retired in November 2018 due to health issues.
In 2004, Barb joined Myrtle Point Golf Club, a new hobby to learn for her retirement years. She purchased expensive golf equipment, exciting colour coordinated clothes and shoes, and she took lessons and practiced swinging different clubs for hours at a time! Eventually she joined the Women’s Club, loving the tournaments, especially winning with her high handicap.
Volunteering with Judy to get unique prizes was especially rewarding for her. Barb made many good lifelong friends. Her strong work ethic and sense of pride in a job well done rubbed off on her coworkers, who would become great friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dohm for her years of kind, compassionate care, as well as the wonderful, caring staff at Evergreen Care Unit. At Barb’s request, there will be no service.
