Freda was born in Vancouver to parents Neil and Tansie McLennan. She was named after her mother’s sister, Freda McMaster.
When she lived in Canada she went by the nickname of Freddie. She was mother to daughter Sharon Brodie Watson, sons Dana and Jaye Brodie, grandmother to their seven children and great-grandmother to 11.
Her husband was in the shipping business and in 1972 was sent to ports in foreign lands, so Freddie got to see the world; she loved people and made friends wherever she went. While in the states she worked in the jewellery stores.
Freddie loved life, nature, babies and her family and friends all over the world She moved back to Powell River almost 30 years ago. Her garden was her sanctuary.
Too many friends to name in person, but thank you to her gardener, handyman and fun fellow of 30 years, and who bought her Cadillac; her mail carrier, who checked on her while on her route and after; the gal who brought her roses and gardenias; her cleaning lady; the gals at First Credit Union; the gal who stepped in for me as POA; Doctor R and staff; the Home Support workers; nurses and staff at qathet General Hospital and Evergreen ECU; and to the special person who came into her life when she need someone the most. She decorated Freddie's area when she moved to Evergreen; her family went above and beyond when they cleaned out her home for us to sell, then at the end cleaned out Freddie's room. Words cannot express how thankful we are that our mum had so many wonderful friends.
A celebration of life and scattering of ashes will take place sometime in August, which would have been her 100th birthday.
