Weather affects City of Powell River operations

Some services suspended due to adverse conditions

UPDATE PROVIDED: Some City of Powell River services have been disrupted due to recent and current weather events. The first BC Ferries round trip between Little River and Westview Terminal [above] was also cancelled for December 23.

Weather conditions have resulted in changes to some City of Powell River services due to the weather event and road conditions.

According to a media release from the city, garbage and recycling collection has been suspended for the day on December 23. The release stated that residents may put out one additional bag without a tag on their next collection day in compensation for missed collection. The city asks that residents bring their carts back onto their property to make way for snow clearing.

As of 9 am, BC Transit, Zunga bus, and handyDART bus service was on hold.

The release stated that city hall and Powell River Recreation Complex are set to be open.

Schools closures throughout School District 47 are also in effect, and early morning sailings at all three terminals in the region were cancelled.
