qathet Regional District will offer free bus service for regularly scheduled bus service in electoral areas A, B and C on October 15, which is municipal election day, to help reduce barriers and assist residents in casting their ballot.
“The board has approved free transit on General Voting Day to encourage and increase voter turnout by reducing expenses to get to the polls,” stated qRD manager of operational services Patrick Devereaux, in a media release on October 6. “The projected revenue loss for offering free service for General Voting Day is minimal at $31.25, and will be covered by the qathet Regional District.”
qRD partners with BC Transit to offer rural paratransit in electoral areas A, B, C and D (Texada Island). qRD operates a Thursday only bus service on Texada Island and does not provide a bus service on Lasqueti Island (Electoral Area E).
