qathet Regional District (qRD) board has approved increases in waste management tipping fees from 2023 to 2026.
At the September 29 regional board meeting, directors approved increases to $245 per tonne on January 1, 2023, going up $5 per tonne each year until January 1, 2026, when the cost will be $260 per tonne.
The regional board also amended the solid waste regulation and tipping fee bylaw to change the municipal solid waste minimum tipping fee charge, which is $7.50, by reducing maximum load weights for that fee. In 2023, the maximum load weight will be 30.612 kilograms, reducing each year to 28.846 kilograms in 2026.
At its September 20 meeting, qRD's finance committee recommended the regional board approve revisions to the solid waste regulation and tipping fee bylaw to increase garbage rates.
